CHAI - Cambodia
In partnership with CHAI, the government of Cambodia has made great strides in improving access to high-quality care and treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS, including children. Recent key pediatric efforts include strengthening central laboratory and early infant diagnosis efforts; integrating the best available pediatric ARVs into national treatment protocols and procuring them for use across the country; working with government facilities and home-based care teams to launch a ready-to-use therapeutic food pilot program to address acute malnutrition in children; and supporting the construction and staff development for new pediatric wards in remote areas.
CHAI’s team in Cambodia has been working closely with the government to develop an integrated prevention of mother-to-child transmission program to diminish the number of children born infected with HIV, which will serve as a model for scale-up across the country. CHAI Cambodia has supported the government in developing national guidelines and standard operating procedures for identifying and treating pediatric HIV/AIDS patients. In addition, CHAI and the government of Cambodia have collaborated to develop important educational material for caregivers and tools for clinicians and counselors.
