CHAI - Uganda
Although the government of Uganda has made great strides in its national fight against HIV/AIDS, until recently, testing and treatment for pediatric HIV still lagged behind that of adults. Together with CHAI and other partners, the government has rapidly built up its national response, making the most efficacious medicines available; expanding entry points into care and treatment for HIV-positive children; addressing the devastating problem of pediatric malnutrition by integrating ready-to-use therapeutic food into national protocols, and training healthcare workers in managing in its use; and participating in a national pediatric advocacy day to promote awareness of testing and treatment.
To support this effort, CHAI has provided a dosing wheel used by clinicians to simplify prescribing, which is often difficult to do accurately for children.
