CHAI - Malawi

The government of Malawi has developed a comprehensive approach to HIV/AIDS, bringing together stakeholders to work together to respond to the crisis. On pediatric HIV/AIDS, CHAI is working with the Ministry of Health to ensure antiretroviral medications are available; working with partners to increase availability of early infant diagnosis and by developing a system of training healthcare workers to collect blood samples.

Their efforts also include follow-up with patients when results are available and strengthening referral networks; facilitating a community-based therapeutic care program to treat pediatric malnutrition in rural districts; providing technical support to a program improving prevention of mother-to-child transmission; and creating an outreach program to increase care and treatment to rural populations.
