CHAI - Botswana
The government of Botswana is largely credited with having one of the strongest, most comprehensive national programs to address HIV/AIDS. Over the past several years, Botswana has made great strides in its efforts to contain the pandemic, and with CHAI's help is now ramping up its work to combat pediatric HIV/AIDS. CHAI is working together to improve existing structures by initiating an expert patient program that will help to identify children who need HIV testing and who may have been missed during interventions to prevent mother-to-child transmission of the disease or who are lost to follow up.
CHAI is also working with the Ministry of Health to encourage routine testing and as well as the adoption of generic pediatric antiretroviral medicines that will help with the sustainability of the national treatment program.
